ALL-TIME PLAYER RANKINGS

Designated Hitters

Rankings
1
Frank Thomas
Was made for the DH; great SLG and OBP numbers; MVP and batting title.
2
Paul Molitor
Could rate in Top 20 at 3B, but played far more at DH. Only DH with 3,000 hits, HOF selection.
3
Edgar Martinez
A pure RH hitter with XB power. Has a good chance at HOF, remains to be seen what voters will think.
4
Don Baylor
Rates better here than he would in RF; a complete player when he first came up. Sort of Frank Robinson lite.
5
David Ortiz
Best pure power hitter to DH, Ortiz would not rank in Top 20 at 1B, has chance to inch up here.
6
Harold Baines
Best LH designated hitter; mediocre right fielder, added 1000+ hits in DH role.
7
Chili Davis
Was a good OF but when he went to AL and became a DH he had a nice productive stretch, mostly for Halos.
8
Hal McRae
The first player to make DH his regular spot, McRae was a doubles hitter perfectly suited for Royals turf.
9
Brian Downing
Catcher & OFer who ended uo playing DH because of the pop in his bat. Stayed healthy year after year.
10
Andre Thornton
Former 1Bman moved to DH after switching leagues to Cleveland. Great eye, home run power.
