It’s Jeff Kent who hurts the Hall of Fame chances of second basemen like Bobby Grich, Lou Whitaker, and maybe Willie Randolph. Kent’s obscene power numbers make that trio look pedestrian in comparison. Fielding runs makes Kent (-4 for his career) look better than most remember him, as his range never seemed that great. He appears to have played his career “clean” of steroids (but who knows?) and will almost certainly join the ranks of the greats in Cooperstown.
